Speaker: Prof. Wallace Broecker, Lamont-Dohert Earth Observatory, Columbia University. Abstract: The distribution of global rainfall has varied with summer insolation, with mean global temperature, and with difference in temperature between hemispheres. These changes are recorded by paleo-shorelines of closed basin lakes and by oxygen isotopes in cave stalagmites.

Bhaskar Gunturu will present in the MIT Atmospheric Science Seminar Series. Abstract: Aerosol concentration effects on precipitation from deep convective clouds have been studied using a cloud resolving model coupled with an aerosol-chemistry-and-physics model which computes aerosol activation using explicit physics. The results show the established relationships between aerosol concentrations and precipitation at low and high aerosol concentrations.

Porter Bennett, President and CEO, and Jozef Lieskosvky, Director of Research, both of BENTEK Energy LLC, will discuss supply, demand, and transportation issues as part of the MITEI Natural Gas Speaker Series. Abstract: US natural gas production is soaring. Since October 2008, drilling activity has fallen by approximately 50%, yet production continues to climb, contradicting the behavior projected by many industry models.
