The MIT Energy Initiative and the US Department of Energy hosted an invitation-only Women in Clean Energy Symposium on September 28th, 2012. This symposium – for leaders who have helped advance the careers of women in clean energy, academics, other experts in clean energy, and students who are studying clean energy disciplines – will help lay the foundation for a broader, continuing effort to enable and support the careers of women in clean energy.
There will be a range of speakers at the symposium, focused on specific actions and activities in the general areas of the award categories. There will also be small group discussions led by the Clean Energy ambassadors (to see who they are, go to the “About C3E” link on this website), industry representatives talking about their clean energy business lines, scientists discussing their innovations, students talking about their research, and a discussion between mentors and those they have mentored.
In addition, there will be an awards ceremony at the Symposium, honoring the winners in the various categories described under the “Categories” section of this website. Each awardee will also receive $10,000 in recognition of their accomplishments.
The goal of the symposium is to provide women in clean energy with a range of perspectives, analysis and data on clean energy challenges and opportunities. It will also provide a forum for informal networking. It is our hope that the Symposium will help build a sustained, national community of professionals dedicated to advancing the careers of women in clean energy.
