Abstract: Sea level rise is a highly debated topic both in the public arena and in scientific circles. Results published in the scientific literature are contradictory and uncertainties prevail due to poorly understood processes and scarce and fragmented data. In this talk I will briefly review the state of the art on sea level estimates of the past 100-150 yrs focusing especially on the recent claims of acceleration/deceleration of sea level rise and their implications for projections of future sea level, possibly as a result of climate change.
