Population and climate change: need for a fully coupled model

April 28, 2011,
2:30am - 3:30pm

Speaker: Eugenia Kalnay, University of Maryland [speaker's website]
Prof. Kalnay, originally from Argentina, was the first woman to obtain a doctorate from the MIT Department of Meteorology (1971), and the first female professor of meteorology at MIT. Her current research interests are in data assimilation, numerical weather prediction, predictability and ensemble forecasting, coupled ocean-atmosphere modeling and climate change, and the impact of land use and land-use change on climate. In 2009 she received the 54th WMO/IMO Prize, the highest award from the World Meteorological Organization, and at the award acceptance presented a talk on "Population and Climate Change: A Proposal".
