The event is designed to bring together cutting-edge energy research and inventive businesses, from MIT and the surrounding area, that are contributing critical knowledge, products and services toward actionable and scalable energy solutions. The event is free, open to the public, and there will be live music, cocktails, and hors d'oeuvres.

Speaker: Prof. Daniel Sperling, University of California, Davis. Abstract: The world is headed toward two billion vehicles. Is this sustainable? Not without transforming vehicles, fuels, and transportation generally—not only in the U.S., but virtually everywhere. Professor Sperling will examine the roots of the problem: the resistant auto industry, dysfunctional oil markets, shortsighted government policies, and unmotivated consumers.

Prof. David Archer of the University of Chicago, an expert on ocean biogeochemical cycles and climate change, will present two seminars in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences as a part of the annual Houghton Lectures. Dr. Judah Cohen of Atmospheric and Environmental Research will present a lecture on "AO impacts on winter climate" as part of the MIT Atmospheric Seminar Series. About the Speaker: Dr. Cohen joined AER as a staff scientist in 1998, having previously spent two years as a National Research Council Fellow at the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies and then two years as a research scientist at MIT's Parsons Laboratory. Cohen received his Ph.D.
