Youth Summit on Global Climate Change

The 3nd Annual Youth Summit on Global Warming is hosted by Technology and Culture Forum at MIT and the Boston Latin School's Youth Climate Action Network. Youth CAN's Annual Summit is open to students in grades 7-12 as well as to the educators of students in grades 7-12. It is a day of workshops, speakers, and activities focused on global climate change and sustainable living. Online registration is required. Youth CAN's interest in hosting a Global Climate Change Summit is to inform ourselves and others about global warming; to create opportunities to foster activism; and to build a coalition of youth and educators who will continue to work together in the fight against global warming. There will be green vendors and grassroots displays, as well as a broad array of climate change and sustainability workshops. Invited presenters include City Councillor John Connolly, Patricia Weinmann of the Technology and Culture Forum at MIT, and Keynote Speaker Bill Moomaw from Tufts University. Workshop leaders include Northeast Biofuels Collaborative, Clean Power Now, The National Wildlife Federation, Cambridge Energy Alliance, The Foresight Project, Mass Audubon, The Boston Public Health Commission, Walden Woods Project, Corporate Accountability International, Roots and Shoots, HMFH Architects, Stage Coach Improv and more. Workshops include such topics as Green Jobs, Green Design, The Science of Climate Change, Filming a Climate Change PSA, Rising Sea Levels, Using Film in the Climate Classroom, Climate Change and the Law, Futuristic Carbon-Free Energy, Mass Power Shift, etc. The 2009 summit will again offer workshops specifically aimed at educators who want to teach about climate change in their classroom. At the 2008 Summit, over 230 students, from 62 different schools across the greater metropolitan area attended. 35 educators attended.
