What happens when research announcements go wrong; statistics are manipulated; risk factors are distorted; or discussions become polarized? In connection with the Cambridge Science Festival, Sense About Science will be holding a discussion session on science and the media for early career researchers in all sciences, engineering and medicine (PhD students, post-docs or equivalent in first job).

Speakers:

  • Science and the media: Dr Christophe Reddy, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
  • What journalists are looking for? (Journalist to be announced)
  • The role of journals in science news: Dr Orla Smith, Editor of Cell's Leading Edge
  • Standing up for Science the nuts and bolts: Alice Tuff, Development Manager, Sense About Science

The session is free to attend with a drinks reception following it but registration is required as there are limited places. Register by emailing Julia Wilson by Tuesday 20th April 2010.
